
This report brings together all activities undertaken towards the completion of the comprehensive regional assessment of Solid Waste Management (SWM) in the Caribbean in fulfilment of five specific objectives.

The information generated through this assessment will be used to springboard Belize to sign and later ratify the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

Belize is exceptionally vulnerable to natural disasters and climate change. This report, Belize: Climate Change Policy Assessment, takes stock of Belize’s plans to manage its climate response, from the perspective of their macroeconomic and fiscal implications. It suggests macroeconomically relevant reforms that could strengthen the likelihood of success of the national strategy and identifies policy gaps and resource needs.

The report Natural Heritage, Natural Wealth: Highlighting the Economic Benefits of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System World Heritage Site aims to capture some insight into Belize’s natural wealth through an economic assessment of the contribution of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System (BBRRS) to the economy.

The serious adverse effects of climate change, particularly on coral reefs and forests, and the increasing intensity and frequency of severe weather events affecting human lives, are obvious around us. These impacts pose major impediments to Belize’s efforts to promote sustainable economic and social development and reduction of poverty, which are the country’s primary and overriding priorities.
