OECD Environmental Performance Reviews provide independent assessments of countries’ progress towards their environmental policy objectives. Reviews promote peer learning, enhance government accountability, and provide targeted recommendations aimed at improving environmental performance, individually and collectively. They are supported by a broad range of economic and environmental data, and evidence-based analysis. Each cycle of Environmental Performance Reviews covers all OECD countries and selected partner economies.
This report is the second Environmental Performance Review of Chile. It evaluates progress towards sustainable development and green growth, with a focus on climate change and biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.
This study highlights the role of the entire financial system in the transition to a green economy and reviews green financial sector policies in emerging and developing economies. It focuses on the political and legal framework conditions, which are essential for a successful financing for green growth. On the basis of ten case studies in emerging and developing countries, the study investigates which strategies, policies and specific policy instruments have been applied at the national level, and how these have directly or indirectly influenced the actions of organisations operating in the financial sector. The study also aims to provide an analytical framework for key stakeholders (governments, donor institutions and the private sector), providing guidance before initiating and building a conducive framework for financing green growth.
The 'ProEcoServe' project assessed ecosystem services such as the provision of soil retention, shoreline protection, carbon sequestration and pollination, identifying almost US$1 billion of benefits in the four pilot countries of Chile, Trinidad and Tobago, South Africa and Viet Nam. This final report includes the results of a four-year project to develop ecosystem assessment tools and products that decision makers can use to integrate the value of ecosystem services into policy, investment decisions and macro-economic models.
This report includes illustrative case studies on the Obama Administration’s efforts in a number of key countries—Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Morocco, Oman, and Peru—in which USTR and the U.S. Department of State have had intensive engagement on environmental issues in recent years. Presenting unique opportunities and challenges, each country has required a tailored approach. Its objective in each, however, has been the same—to ensure that increased trade goes hand in hand with increased environmental protection.
