One of the focus areas of GO4SDGs is expanding youth opportunities for green jobs to achieve progress to meet the 2030 Agenda. As a legacy initiative of Stockholm+50, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) through GO4SDGs, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Generation Unlimited are working together with young people, governments, social partners, employers’ and workers’ organizations, education entities, and the private sector to design and implement the Green Jobs for Youth Pact. The Pact supports a just transition and boosts decent jobs for youth in a sustainable economy. It aims to develop 1 million new green jobs, transform 1 million existing jobs, and help 10.000 young green entrepreneurs start their businesses by 2030.

Regional rollout:
Advancing Green Jobs for African Youth in Agri-Food
GO4SDGs develops a project to support decent green jobs for the largely unemployed African youth. Although agriculture is Africa’s largest economic sector, the region is also facing the challenge of feeding its growing population. The activities are: 1. Developing a knowledgebase of green entrepreneurship initiatives, 2. Facilitating training for African youth on green entrepreneurship, and 3. Advancing circular business models in sustainable food systems (competition for youth-led MSMEs).
Regional rollout in Latin America and the Caribbean
GO4SDGs is working with universities to assess the need for training and to support the access of graduate youth to green jobs, and to include sustainable lifestyles in the university curricula. GO4SDGs is also working with ARIUSA and ILO to assess the need for training of purpose-driven professionals and support the access of graduate youth to green jobs.
