On 2 October 2025 (14:30-16:00 CEST), the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), as part of the GEF-funded and UNEP-led Global NIP Update project (GEF ID 10785), hosted the workshop “Article 15 in Practice: National Reporting and ERS Guidance” for project countries.

This virtual workshop aimed to refresh Parties’ knowledge of the obligations under Article 15 of the Stockholm Convention and of the practical steps for preparing and submitting reports in the Electronic Reporting System (ERS). Importantly, some data required for Article 15 reporting overlaps with the data used to develop and update National Implementation Plans (NIPs) under Article 7. Leveraging this overlap allows countries to streamline their reporting processes, reduce administrative burdens, and enhance data consistency across their Stockholm Convention obligations.

The workshop featured a refresher on Parties’ obligations for national reporting, including the structure and functionalities of the ERS and the practical steps for preparing and submitting reports. Building on this, the discussion highlighted the data overlaps between the National Implementation Plan and National Reporting, as well as guidance on integrating reporting and NIP workflows.

The workshop brought together national focal points, technical experts, consultants, and regional centers to advance the following:

Objectives

  • Refresh Parties’ knowledge of obligations under Article 15, including requirements for national reporting and the use of the ERS system.
  • Highlight synergies between Articles 7 and 15, emphasizing how data collected for NIPs can be utilized in Article 15 national reports to streamline processes.
  • Provide a space for peer exchange, enabling countries to share practical experiences, lessons learned, and suggestions related to the preparation and submission of national reports under Article 15.

Target audience

  • Stockholm Convention Official Contact Points, National Focal Points, National Assistants, particularly from the project countries
  • National officials and experts involved in NIP development and national reporting
  • Practitioners and experts supporting the NIP Update and national reporting process in the country
  • Representatives of regional centers
  • Members of NIP National Coordinating Mechanism/Committees and Project Coordination Units/Thematic Task Groups
