On 23 June 2020 at 12:30 (CEST), the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) is hosting a webinar on "The C3S Demo Case Soil Erosion: Projecting Rainfall Erosivity And Soil Loss Under Climate Change Through Copernicus Data". The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) is part of the Copernicus Earth Observation Programme of the European Commission and is implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).
In this context, the ECMWF contracted the Foundation CMCC for the C3S Demo Case “Soil Erosion”, aimed at providing information about current status and future variations in rainfall erosivity and consequent potential soil loss over Italy. The well-assessed Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), combining rainfall erosivity and soil susceptibility to erosion, has been adopted for this purpose while exploiting last generation datasets and tools available on the C3S Climate Data Store (CDS).
This webinar is focusing on presenting the Demo Case processing chain and a preliminary version of final products: an Application allowing to access, visualise, and analyse estimates about soil erosion hazard across Italy, under both current climate and an ensemble of future scenarios; and a set of rainfall-based indicators proxies of rainfall erosivity. To facilitate end-user’s uptake and allow final tuning of the Application, the Q&A session will consist in crowdsourcing and polling in real-time some feedbacks from the attendants.
