On 17 January 2019 (12:30 - 1:10 PM CET), the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) is holding a webinar on "Using the Social Cost of Carbon to Value Earth Observing Systems".
This webinar will demonstrate how to quantify the benefits of new Earth Observing Systems (EOSs), and how this knowledge can be used to improve decision-making on climate policy.
It will feature a presentation from Roger Cooke (Resources for the Future, University of Strathclyde, Delft University of Technology) on a study that shows how the U.S. Social Cost of Carbon (SCC) methodology is being used to value new EOSs, which are designed to give reliable information about climate sensitivity more quickly than existing EOS systems. The US SCC methodology also uses net benefits to calculate the value of the information provided by enhanced EOS systems in addition to damages.
The webinar will be moderated by Valentina Bosetti of Bocconi University, RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE), and CMCC.
