Organisation :
Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange (SEEE)

On 5 September 2018 (10.00 AM - 11.30 AM CEST) the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN) and Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange (SEEE) is holding a webinar on "Chinese carbon market and green finance development".

This webinar focuses on the lessons learned from China’s carbon markets and how this experience could be used to help other countries to address climate change through carbon market and green finance. The presentations share cases studies from China and highlight innovative practices that could be used in other developing countries.

The presenters are Allison Hua Fan, the Director of the Research and Innovation Center of Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, Zemin Zhang the Director of Climate Bridge Ltd., and Yaqin Chen who is the Division Chief of Green Finance Department, Head Office of Industrial Bank.

China has been running seven pilot carbon emission trading schemes (ETS) for approximately five years, and is currently establishing its national carbon ETS based on the experiences of the pilot ETS. As a market-based policy tool, the Chinese local carbon markets have contributed to carbon emission reductions in pilot provinces and cities, raised awareness of carbon pricing among participated enterprises, and played a key role in the development of a broader green financing mechanism that facilitates the economy’s transition to sustainable growth.
