Custom codes to facilitate implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions

On 5 June 2024, the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions hosted a webinar on the role of custom codes (harmonized system codes) for implementing the conventions.

The webinar provided an overview of relevant provisions and activities related to custom codes under the three Conventions. Collaboration with the World Customs Organization in implementing these activities was also highlighted.

Pursuant to Article 13 of the Rotterdam Convention, harmonized system codes, also referred to as customs codes, are to be assigned to the individual chemicals or groups of chemicals listed in Annex III to the Convention. The Basel Convention has a long-standing cooperation with the World Customs Organization to develop custom codes to identify wastes regulated under that Convention.
