On 25 June 2020 at 16:00 (EDT), the International Union for Conservation for Nature (IUCN) is hosting a webinar on "Dialogue on Marine Solutions in the Pacific", as part of their "BEST-PANORAMA" series, leading up to the IUCN World Conservation Congress in January 2021.

Protected areas are essential for nature and the well-being of human communities. The management of marine areas is not an easy task, and varies widely from one region to another, influenced by different visions of how nature should be protected, and grounded in a range of economic, environmental and social perceptions. Bottom-up, inclusive approaches such as Educational Managed Marine Area (EMMA) and Locally Managed Marine Area (LMMA) aim to enable and empower local communities in marine conservation and resource management.

In this webinar, practitioners from the Pacific will present their solutions, share good practices and challenges, and discuss potential uptakes. This will offer a discussion between these practitioners on how they can learn from each other’s solutions and potentially replicate them in their own sites, as well as what the opportunities and barriers may be for such endeavours.
