On 13 August 2024 (16:00-17:05 CEST), the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) hosted the online workshop “Outreach and Engagement with Major Stakeholder Groups for Developing National Implementation Plans" for Bahamas, Bolivia, Dominica, Peru, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago.
This workshop was the second in a series of workshops organized by the GGKP under Component 4 (Knowledge Management and Information Sharing) to assist countries in developing strategies for outreach and information dissemination as part of their efforts to update National Implementation Plans (NIPs) and meet obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
The structure of NIPs requires a detailed inventory of POPs, gathering comprehensive information on their production, use, and presence within a country, including their lifecycle in products like buildings and consumer goods. This process demands effective outreach to and engagement with various stakeholders, particularly the private sector, to ensure comprehensive data collection and ongoing communication with government bodies. The workshop aimed to provide specific guidance on outreach, consultation, and private sector engagement, while also sharing examples of knowledge management and information-sharing strategies tailored to regional and national priorities, to support the effective management of POPs.
Objectives
- Consultation with the project countries: receive inputs from the country’s perspectives and gather information relevant to their national context in terms of mapping and facilitating engagement with stakeholders to get involved in accurate data collection and development of NIPs.
- Baseline assessment and improvement: review and assess how the current state of outreach and information dissemination for POPs can be enhanced to help countries and regions comply with their obligations under the Stockholm Convention, focusing on innovative and enhanced means of implementation and building and enhancing human capacities.
- Knowledge sharing: facilitate the sharing of lessons learned, challenges encountered, and good practices in outreach and information dissemination acquired by countries and regional executing agencies throughout the project implementation process.
Target audience
- Representatives of Regional Centers and relevant stakeholders.
- Stockholm Convention Official Contact Points and National Focal Points, particularly those from project countries.
- Members of NIP National Coordinating Mechanism/Committee and Project Coordination Units/Thematic Task Groups.
- National officials and experts involved in the process of reviewing and updating the NIPs.
- This event was conducted in the convenient time zone of the following countries: Bahamas, Bolivia, Dominica, Peru, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago.
