On 20 March 2025 (11:00-12:30 CET), the International Pollutants Elimination Network and Geneva Environment Network will host an event that explores emerging remediation technologies and contamination hotspots linked to POPs, including PFAS, brominated POPs, dioxins and PCBs.
It will also discuss the newly finalized Guidance on Best Available Techniques and Best Environmental Practices for Managing Sites Contaminated with Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), developed by the Stockholm Convention BAT BEP Expert Group. The guide focuses on sustainable site management and remediation methods that prevent the unintentional formation of POPs (UPOPs) while prioritizing soil conservation. It is designed to assist parties in establishing or enhancing their contaminated site frameworks, covering technical, policy, legal and financial considerations.
The event takes place within the framework of the Road to 2025 BRS COPs organized in the run-up to the upcoming 2025 Meetings of the Conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (2025 BRS COPs) to be held in Geneva.
