System Planning to Scale Up Renewables

Organisation :
United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

On 27 May 2021 at 15:00 CEST, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is hosting a webinar on "System Planning to Scale Up Renewables".

Energy planning determines when, where, what, and how to invest in energy, driving important energy system design and management decisions. When done well, today’s decisions address tomorrow’s needs and challenges. Poor resource planning can cause energy shortages and service interruptions, lead to energy surpluses that raise electricity prices due to supply/demand imbalance, and increase vulnerability to fossil fuel price fluctuations and emissions. By applying strategic and innovative energy planning approaches, we can accelerate the clean energy transition and ensure that USAID partner countries’ power supply becomes more green, reliable, and cost-effective.

THe USAID explores strategic energy planning approaches to resource adequacy, the interconnected approaches and tools for renewable energy development, and methodologies for introducing the locational dimension of renewable energy and zones. The webinar will discuss strategic energy planning best practices that can help policymakers:

  • Improve capacity on strategic power sector planning in high renewable energy and energy efficiency scenarios;
  • Link strategic energy planning approaches to investment and implementation programs such as renewable energy competitive procurement programs; and
  • Encourage the private sector, including developers, prosumers, network operators, service providers, legislators, investors and aggregators, to participate in energy planning.
