On 26 April 2021 at 14:00 - 15:30 CEST, UNCTAD and One Planet Network are holding a webinar - "What’s behind the deal? Innovative trade tools to increase the sustainability and transparency of global value chains".
In 2019, the global trade value of goods exported throughout the world amounted to approximately USD19 trillion. In comparison, this figure stood at around USD6.45 trillion in 2000. While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a steep downturn in global trade, signs point towards a recovery which will push these levels back near or beyond where they stood in 2019.
The discussion in this webinar aims to explore the changing landscape of trade over the past decades and what this means both for people and the planet. Experts from international organisations, civil society, and research institutes will explore a number of trade tools which can thrust sustainability into trade agreements, and in doing so provide ripple effects outwards towards both the production and consumption ends of various global value chains.
