World Bioenergy Association - Lessons so far – the role of sustainable bioenergy in displacing fossil fuels

Organisation :
World Bioenergy Association (WBA)

On 30 June 2021, the World Bionenergy Association is hosting a webinar on "The role of sustainable bioenergy in displacing fossil fuels".

Sustainable bioenergy has played a crucial role in helping many countries to move rapidly away from fossil fuels. The industrial use of bioenergy has enabled companies and countries to achieve rapid decarbonisation of their energy systems. Following the IEA naming bioenergy as one of the seven key pillars of decarbonisation in their recent Net Zero report, WBA is pleased to host this webinar, “Lessons so far – the role of sustainable industrial bioenergy in displacing fossil fuels”.

The scale of the climate crisis requires urgent action, using all the tools at our disposal. Industrial bioenergy offers rapid and immediately available carbon abatement by directly displacing fossil fuels used for heat and power production. As a dispatchable, low-carbon source of energy, bioenergy can also provide important flexibility services, facilitating the energy transition. This event will use the UK as an initial case study, before broadening the discussion to consider globally applicable lessons from the use of industrial bioenergy in displacing fossil fuels.
