SBTi FLAG
Webinar

On 28 September 2022, the Science Based Targets Initiative is launching its Science Based Target Setting Guidance on forestry, land and agriculture (FLAG).

The standards are the world's firsts for companies in land-intensive sectors that represent nearly a quarter of global annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The guide offers a science-based pathway to how much and how quickly a company needs to cut its land-related emissions to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

This virtual event will introduce the guide, discuss how businesses in this sector can set robust emissions reduction targets, account for GHG removals and accelerate their decarbonization efforts to keep the 1.5°C global temperature target within reach.

Thursday, March 2, 2023 - 09:44
2022 Webinar 2
Online

On 14 September 2022 (1:00 - 2:00 PM EAT), Poverty-Environment Action for Sustainable Development Goals (PEA) held a global webinar and launched a new publication, Sustainable Development in Practice: a guide to Integrating Environment, Climate, and Poverty Reduction, the 3rd edition of the Handbook.

The handbook shows why and how to achieve the ‘integrated approach' to environment and poverty issues that have been called for in practically every international agreement on sustainable development and the environment. The Handbook offers readers:

  • Improved understanding of the links between the poverty, environment, and climate challenges that influence the achievement of today’s holistic goals such as the SDGs or inclusive green economy;
  • Learning from Poverty-Environment Action’s ‘programmatic approach' to tackling these challenges in four continents over 16 years, plus complementary lessons from other initiatives;
  • A practical framework for applying the various activities that make up an integrated approach, based on a typical policy/decision-making cycle;
  • Thereby helping readers to develop best-bet strategies for achieving integrated results more effectively, efficiently, equitably, and at scale.

Ninth CEPR/EAERE Webinar on Climate Policy

Yes
Thursday, March 2, 2023 - 09:44
Ninth CEPR/EAERE Webinar on Climate Policy_Climate policy in times of war_Make the Green Deal strong again!

On 13 September 2022 (17:30-19:00 CET), the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) will host the webinar Climate Policy in times of war: Make the Green Deal strong again!

The targets of the European Green Deal require a substantial reduction of oil and gas imports even before 2030. However, institutions and policy instruments that would enable the EU to implement their targets are still weak. The planned ETS for road transport and buildings will be likely implemented with a price cap; so far, the EU has not been able to coordinate the purchases of member states in the international oil and gas market; the diversification of gas and oil imports remains a high priority.

The panel will discuss strategic options for the EU’s climate policy and energy security.

The Role of Life Cycle Assessment for Chemical Recycling Deployment and Policy Decision-Making

CEPS logo

On 13 September 2022 (16:00-18:00 CET), the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) is hosting a webinar on the role of life cycle assessment for chemical recycling deployment and policy decision-making.

Chemical recycling refers to an emerging and diverse group of technologies for which there is a need for well-founded data to assess their potential contribution to circularity and decarbonization. To support decision-making and investment processes, life cycle assessment (LCA) is a key tool for assessing the impacts of these technologies.

Issues to be discussed during the webinar include the contribution of LCA for chemical recycling to decision-making and investment processes; existing evidence from LCA applications and key gaps. and challenges in terms of transparency and comparability of published LCA studies.

Green Recovery, Green Jobs, and Inclusive Growth in Africa

Yes
Thursday, March 2, 2023 - 09:44
Green recovery webinar 2
Virtual

On 7 September 2022 (14:00-15:30 Abidjan time), African Development Bank (AfDB) hosted the webinar, 'Green Recovery, Green Jobs, and Inclusive Growth in Africa'. The webinar is part of a series on Mainstreaming Natural Capital in Africa’s Post-COVID Development Agenda co-organized by AfDB, GGKP and WWF Africa, in collaboration with the AUC and the UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Centre, under the Mainstreaming Natural Capital in African Development Finance (NC4-ADF) Programme.

With the COVID-19 pandemic costing over 30 million African jobs, driving up poverty, and increasing debt pressures—challenges require multifaceted approached more than ever. At the same time, African economies must contend with a worsening triple planetary crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution—while confronting the fact that they remain heavily dependent on natural resources across formal and informal sectors.

The best way to tackle these issues simultaneously is to prioritize green investments in COVID-19 recovery, investments that back the sustainable use of resources, clean and efficient energy, and nature-based solutions. In short, Africa must move toward a green economy that leverages, invests in, and protects the natural capital that makes up a majority of continent’s wealth.

The webinar begun answering remaining questions on the African green recovery by creating a platform for sharing lessons and best practices on how Africa can use COVID-19 recovery to transition to a green economy and drive green job growth.

It leveraged case studies and practical recommendations to:

  1. Explore how Africa can leverage its natural capital to drive green recovery and job growth;

  2. Set out which specific reforms are needed to foster green employment opportunities;

  3. Identify which barriers remain to implementing a green economy and creating green jobs, how they can be overcome, and the roles of governments and private sector actors;

  4. Highlight specific examples and experiences that can be leveraged in accelerating actions across the continent.
