Malta commits to greening urban areas. In the next five years the government will be driving the implementation of greening and sustaining environmental projects in various urban areas. The projects will focus on innovative green infrastructure and nature-based solutions to enhance the wellbeing of society and local community. Such projects will also contribute to the wider environment context such as improving air quality, reducing noise pollution, and aiding in adapting to climate change effects.

Malta commits to improving air quality for coastal communities and surrounding areas through a a multimillion environmental investment to develop the electricity infrastructure for cruiseliners and cargo ships to switch off their gasoil- or heavy-fuel-oil-fired engines and plug in to shoreside electricity to energise their onboard systems whilst they are berthed at the ports and harbour area which is a growing economic industry for an island dependent on its seas.
