Assessing the Alignment of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Climate Mitigation & Adaptation Policies with the Outcome of the First Global Stocktake (GST1) under the Paris Agreement: A case study of Malaysia

Organisation:
Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES)

The first Global Stocktake (GST1) at COP28 has set the stage for countries to update their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) by 2025, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement’s goals.

Using Malaysia as a case study, this report evaluates how closely the outcomes of GST1 align with Malaysia’s current NDCs and other climate policies for mitigation and adaptation.

Key recommendations include expanding the scope of climate policies, increasing ambition in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and non-CO2 emissions and strengthening forest conservation efforts.
