Making Urban Healthcare Resilient for a Green Economic Recovery: Installing Sustainable Water and Energy Solutions in two Rwandan Cities

This case study evaluates Rwanda's implementation of Urban Low Emissions Development Strategies (Urban-LEDS II), a global initiative that seeks climate resilience through low emissions.

The project was implemented in the City of Kigali and the District of Muhanga to improve both the quality and sustainability of services at health centres, specifically by increasing their on-site water management systems and energy efficiency. It provides support in four areas of need-water, energy, evidence-based monitoring and training.

Through lessons learned, the project demonstrates the benefits of cliamte resilient services at health centres, especially in responding to emergencies and strategizing recovery measures. Ultimately, it highlights the importance of inclusive access to sustainable infrastructures in a country's future roadmap to green economic recovery.
