This is the first of three reports in the TemaNord series showcasing Nordic experiences in promoting sustainable consumption and production (SCP). The 50+ examples presented in the three reports display a wide array of opportunities and actors that can deliver required change, including public and private sector actors, the research community, NGOs, city planners, and civil society champions of change.
The report Nordic best practices: Relevant for UNEP 10YFP of sustainable consumption and production presents nineteen initiatives on the themes of sustainable lifestyles and education and sustainable public procurement. They are presented in a manner designed to facilitate a comparison of their respective strengths, key results, and novelty as well as to draw lessons learned of each particular case.
The eleven cases in the theme Sustainable Lifestyles and Education consist of different projects and programs designed to guide people towards a more sustainable lifestyle. The case target groups range from preschool and schoolchildren, office workers and start-up companies to citizens of a city or the entire nation. The Sustainable Public Procurement theme consists of eight cases, where the focus is on the public procurer in different organisations and at different levels, including a city, a region or a country. The cases include a local model of circular economy, systematic procurement based on an environmental strategy, and a nationwide network of knowledge sharing. Cases where demand of more sustainable solutions has affected markets are also included, such as demand for sustainable energy, public transport and cleaning services.
The cases have also been added into the UN Environment's 10 Year Frame-work Program (10YFP) information platform, the SCP Clearinghouse, a hub dedicated to knowledge sharing, cooperation and innovation for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) implementation around the world.
