The Palau project, implemented by the Solid Waste Management Division of the Bureau of Public Works and the Environment Quality Protection Board (EQPB), seeks to introduce an effective management programme for end-of-life tires. The project will establish a legal framework to effectively regulate tire importation and establish a national standard to ensure long-lasting tires are imported for use in the country, as well as provide practical uses for the end-of-life tires currently stockpiled.
Palau will use PacWastePlus investment to establish a recovery programme in Palau to process end-of-life tires given the high cost of exporting them for Environmental sound management. Activities will include designing a waste management system that will support local authorities in the management of end-of-life tires in in Palau, establishing a national tire importation standard, and introducting a legal framework to allow for the collection and repurposing of end-of-life tires.
