SRWMA/J-PRISM II Waste Oil Collection and Storage Pilot Project

The safe and effective management of waste oils from collecting, transporting, storing and disposal is a priority in Samoa. Based on the results of a Japanese Technical Cooperation Project for Promotion of Regional Initiative (JICA) data collection survey,  it is estimated that the annual generation amount of waste oil in Samoa in 2020 was about 318,888 liters, and will increase to 455,555 liters in 2030.

This implementation report of the SRWMA/J-PRISM II pilot project covers waste oil activities in Samoa. Key information presented regarding the collection stage includes procedure for waste oil collection, waste oil collection results and major identified issues at the collection stage

Important information regarding the storage of waste oil includes procedure for waste oil weighing and storage, weighing and storage results, major identified issues at the weighing stage and major identified issues at the SWOMP facility layout and storage stage. The report also covers the cost analysis as well as recommendations for the next phase of the pilot project.
