Supporting Last-mile Women Energy Entrepreneurs: What Works and What Does Not

Organisation:
International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy

The International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy (ENERGIA) has been working on the intersection of energy access and women's economic empowerment through its Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) programme, implemented from 2014 to 2018.

The report presents the program's journey to create and upscale women-centric energy enterprises that sell safe, reliable and affordable energy solutions to low-income consumers in underserved areas. It seeks to analyse the various productive strategies as well as lessons learned to support other organizations working on women's enterprise development.

Focused on developing women's enterprises in the renewable energy sector, the programme has been implemented in seven countries: Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda
