Hosted by the Government of Burkina Faso, with the support of PAGE, the Poverty and Environment Intiative, Switch Africa Green and the Global Green Growth Initiative, this Academy brings together stakeholders from government, the private sector and civil society to learn about and advance the Green Economy agenda in Burkina Faso.
Burkina Faso, despite being one of the fastest growing economies in its region, is one of the poorest countries in the world, and faces serious economic, social and political threats due to climate change and unsustainable agricultural practices. The Green Economy Academy addresses these threats, with a particular focus on green trade, sustainable production and consumption, poverty and green jobs.
Green Economy Academies represent an important tool for PAGE countries, as it gives policymakers, stakeholders and interested parties an opportunity to learn from one another and develop strategies to coordinate their activities for greater impact.
The Green Economy Academy includes perspectives from representatives from fellow PAGE country, Senegal. In this respect, the Burkina Faso Green Economy Academy is a great opportunity to learn from the experiences of another developing country in the region going through similar processes to green their economy. Additionally, south-south cooperation such as through the Burkina Faso Academy gives rise to green trade opportunities as well as promote the coordination of green economy activities at the regional level.
The Academy concludes with a high-level interactive and consultative session that will draw in key stakeholders to brainstorm priorities, challenges and strategies of implementing a green economy agenda in Burkina Faso. It also features a gallery as a community side event, featuring green initiatives, including a new eco-village being planned by the government of Burkina Faso.
