On 27-28 October, the Ministry of Land and Environment of the Republic of Mozambique will host an event "Enhancing Capacity on Natural Capital Approaches for a Green Economy". The event is co-organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and will take place in a hybrid format with in-person gathering in Maputo Province, Mozambique and online participation.
Mozambique has been one of the frontrunner countries in recognizing the importance of accounting for natural capital in the economic system for the country's inclusive and sustainable development. Against this background, Mozambique was selected for the pilot case for applying a natural capital approach for development finance under the Natural Capital for African Development Finance (NC4-ADF) programme. In this regard, a natural capital assessment was conducted for the infrastructure finance project “Pemba-Lichinga Integrated Development Corridor”. The assessment aims to provide an example of added-value of assessing infrastructure projects under a natural capital lens.
This part of the event will showcase the findings of the natural capital assessment and promote stakeholders' engagement to this dialogue. Virtual participation of this morning session on the 27 October is open for the public (see the registration link below).
In addition, reflecting the need to build capacity on natural capital approaches expressed at the National Dialogue on 29 June 2022, the second part of this event is composed of capacity building sessions. From the afternoon of 27 October to 28 October, a test-run session on natural capital modules will be organised which will help participants build knowledge and capacity on natural capital approaches.
This training session aims not only to provide a capacity building opportunity for decision makers and practitioners in Mozambique but also to collect feedback on the natural capital training module currently being developed and to be embedded in the African Development Institute's Natural Capital Academy being designed. This part of the event is in-person and invitation only to control the quality of the training.
