Conducted on 9 March 2023 (14:00-16:00 CET), Virtual Global Inception Workshop brought together all the participants of the GEF ID 10785 project entitled Global Development, Review and Update of National Implementation Plans (NIPs) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.

Article 7 of the Stockholm Convention requires parties to develop a national implementation plan (NIP) describing the measures on how the country will implement its obligations under the convention and to transmit the NIPs to the Conference of Parties (COP). The project aims to assist participating countries to comply both with their NIP-update and national reporting obligations under the convention while addressing current challenges and building on regional expertise and UNEP’s experience.

First in the series of virtual events under Component 4 (knowledge management and information sharing), the workshop introduced participants to the project, lessons learned, progress, action plans and roles and responsibilities under each component. The significance of the workshop resides in the idea of drawing a line between all the project components.

This online event was open for all project participants, whether they are directly or indirectly involved in preparation, review and update of the NIPs and national reporting. BRS Secretariat, implementing and executing agencies, thirty-two countries and their representatives were invited to join the workshop, where project teams from each component introduced their team, scope of works, shared the progress and their plans to advance the project. Participants were also introduced to the knowledge management and sharing activities and tools, such as upcoming webinars, knowledge platform and community of practice on the Green Forum

Simultaneous interpretation from English to Spanish, French and Russian was provided, and the event was recorded.
