National Implementation Plan (NIP) Electronic Toolkit for POPs Reporting

toolkit

This video discusses the development of an Integrated Electronic Toolkit by the Chemicals and Health Branch of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in response to a number of decisions within the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

The toolkit is designed to facilitate the development, transmission, access and use of data contained in National Implementation Plans (NIPs) and national reports. It comprises multiple modules to facilitate the NIP development and update process:

  1. NIP Submission Module: Aids parties in organizing data for NIP submission, whether for new or updated NIPs
  2. POPs Inventories Module: Provides guidance on the inventory process and helps parties manage inventory data
  3. Queries Module: Enables to query information submitted in the NIPs submission module
  4. Guidance Module: Offers links to useful documents and other toolkits relevant to NIP development and reporting

The toolkit offers a comprehensive overview of the information and data required during the NIP update process. Additionally, parties can download the NIP document in Word format for circulation at the national level. By utilizing this toolkit, parties enhance their compliance with Articles 7 and 15 of the Stockholm Convention, contributing to the long-term reduction or elimination of persistent organic pollutant emissions.

As part of the GEF-funded and UNEP-led “Global Development, Review and Update of NIPs under the Stockholm Convention on POPs” project, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is executing Component 4, focused on disseminating information, managing knowledge and coordinating with the Stockholm Convention Secretariat to provide accessible, integrated tools and resources for all Parties.
