Formulated to present in the third international conference on small island developing states Barbados National Assessment Report: The third international conference on small island developing states delivers the progress, gaps, actions and current challenges faced by Barbados in the national implementation of Mauritius strategy for further implementation (MSI) of the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA).
The report gives an overview of the reports that have been published throughout the years to address the sectoral challenges and actions that shall be and were taken to tackle the impacts of climate change. These reports were the basis of the Barbados National Assessment Report which basically highlights the vulnerabilities SIDS have been facing to transform their economy along with the mechanisms that were successful in mainstreaming and integrating concepts of sustainable development across various sectors. The report states that national implementation has progressed apace, however, there continues to be gaps and challenges as it relates to legislative framework and enforcement, the need for capacity building, resource efficiency and the need for enhanced regional coordination. The report explains the national institutional framework required for the sectoral coordination and integration of the three pillars of sustainable development and identifies areas for renewed political commitment and concrete actions needed to further support the implementation of the BPOA and MSI.
