Belize 2014-2024 National Environmental Policy and Strategy: Green, clean, resilient and strong sets out policies, priorities, action plans and anticipated results for the next ten years (2014-2024) based on a clear assessment of existing environmental challenges and resources and institutional framework and capacities to address them. This report is intended to be used as an operational/management tool for the mobilization of resources, development of capacity (both institutional and legal), and as guidance for addressing gaps and the improvement in the execution of the Department of Environment's (DOE) mandate.
The overall objective of involving stakeholders is to have the DOE, the Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development (MFFSD), and stakeholders to feel a sense of ownership since the method utilized ensured stakeholders active involvement in the preparation of the documents. The document recognizes the need for the development, adoption, and implementation of comprehensive natural resources and environmental policy and strategy including planning for climate change and mitigating its effects. Hence, the document includes the guiding principles and policies, review and assessment of the past national environmental action plans and strategies along with the current situation analysis of current issues and trends. The document also provides the strategic results that should be opted for green, clean, resilient and a strong Belize.
