Kiribati Development Plan 2016-2019 is the guide for formulating policies and programs to advance inclusive economic development in Kiribati. Visioning "Towards a better educated, healthier, more prosperous nation with a higher quality of life", the plan focuses on the following six Key Priority Areas: Human Resources Development, Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction, Health, Environment, Governance, and Infrastructure.
Kiribati's thrust for Green Growth is demonstrated on the Key Priority Area 4, Environment with its goals and strategies. With five environmental policy focuses - climate change, biodiversity conservation and management, waste management and pollution control, resource management, and environmental governance - the government of Kiribati aims "To facilitate sustainable development through approaches that protect biodiversity and support the reduction of environmental degradation as well as adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change."
