The Green Growth Knowledge Platform launched a new research committee during the World Bank’s Law, Justice and Development Week in Washington D.C. on 19 November 2015.  The committee Green Growth and the Law will focus on identifying critical knowledge and data gaps related to the ways rule of law and legal frameworks enable green growth and sustainable development. This committee is part of the GGKP’s unique research program that brings together experts from the world’s leading intergovernmental organizations, think tanks, and research institutions to collectively identify and address knowledge gaps in green growth theory and practice.  The Green Growth and the Law committee is made up of 17 experts from 12 organizations and is co-chaired by Claudia de Windt from the Organization of American States and Charles Di Leva from the World Bank.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with such a notable group of experts to explore issues at the nexus of green growth and the law,“ commented Di Leva.  “Strong legal frameworks and institutional capacity are required to both develop the enabling conditions for green growth and to ensure transparency and participation from stakeholders whose well-being and prosperity depends on both a healthy environment and vibrant economy,” added de Windt.

This committee will work for the next 18 months to build a road map for addressing identified knowledge gaps. Their collective efforts are the first step in catalyzing a broader exploration of law and green growth.
