Recipe of Change - no food is waste

Events News

In an effort to raise awareness on food waste, the UNEP West Asia regional office has developed the 'Recipe of Change' initiative that aims at shedding light on how each one of us can make a difference in reducing the huge amount of food waste we generate.

Citing the report on the State of Food Waste in West Asia; ‘Food loss and food waste are two of the largest ethical challenges facing humanity today, especially in a region that is highly dependent on food imports to meet its dietary needs.’ Today more than 820 million people globally suffer undernourishment

The campaign is focused on raising awareness on food waste issues and empowering the movement of change to achieve the SDG12.3 that aims to halve food waste by 2030.

The campaign will be rolled out through social media content and series of campaign videos featuring Sami Dimassi, Regional Director of UNEP West Asia, Stephanie Atallah, George Khalaf as well as top chefs from the region to inspire people and convey crucial messages.

The list of participating chefs include:

  1. Chef Maroun Chedid (Lebanon)
  2. Chef Joe Barza (Lebanon)
  3. Chef Leyla Fathallah (Lebanon)
  4. Chef Youssef Akiki (Lebanon)
  5. Chef Tala Bashmi (Bahrain)
  6. Chef Ali Ghzawi (Jordan)
  7. Chef Issa Al Balushi (Bahrain)
  8. Chef Yasser (Syria)
  9. Chef Mussabeh (UAE)

These top chefs from the region will spread the voice on the importance of reducing food waste and share creative ideas about recipes using leftovers and food that “doesn’t look good”, as well as other sustainable practices. This will help point out to the general audience and in particular to the Youth that food waste is everywhere and it is something beyond borders.

The campaign will conclude with a challenge including influencers, chelfs and everyone willing to participate creating their own Recipe of Change and sharing it on their social media pages.
