On 24-28 October, the Supporting Preparedness for Article 6 Cooperation (SPAR6C) Team had a fruitful inception mission to Pakistan.
The SPAR6C mission team, consisting of representatives from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, and the GFA Consulting Group, met with almost 100 stakeholders and international agencies in Islamabad, Pakistan, and introduced international carbon trading under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and the SPAR6C program.
With the aim of assessing national needs and mapping existing practices on carbon trading, three workshops were held with federal and provincial officials, scholars, and private sector representatives. The international expert team also met with multiple donor agencies to understand their existing efforts on climate change and clean energy to maximize the benefits of SPAR6C activities.
The meetings and discussions during the mission provided valuable inputs for the national needs and readiness assessment and detailed planning of SPAR6C activities in Pakistan, paving the way for SPAR6C’s official launch in Islamabad in early 2023.
