Chris joined GGGI in January 2013 and is a Program Manager in the Indonesia country team based in Jakarta. Chris leads GGGI’s work on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) and is supporting the Government of Indonesia’s efforts to design, launch and implement a funding mechanism that provides finance to land-based mitigation actions. Prior to joining GGGI, Chris was the Director of Forestry and Ecosystems at the GLOBE International Secretariat in London. He managed GLOBE’s work with senior legislators on REDD+ and natural capital, and oversaw the political engagement, fund-raising, research programs and south-south collaboration of these two global initiatives. Earlier in his career, Chris worked as a Senior Analyst at IDEAcarbon and focussed on providing independent risk analysis of emission reduction projects in developing countries. Chris received a first class degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford (St. Edmund Hall) and began his career as a Civil and Structural Engineer with Atkins. Chris is a member of the Appeals Committee of Tusk Trust, a UK-based African conservation charity, and in 2008 he cycled 8,000 km across Sub-Saharan Africa to raise money for community-based conservation projects.
