Dina Abdelhakim joined the Chemicals and Health Branch as part of the Special Programme Secretariat in 2018, where she managed the portfolio of projects from the Africa region. In addition, she implemented the Secretariat’s communications and knowledge management strategy. More recently she has also been supporting the interim Secretariat of the Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals and Waste since its inception in 2022. Dina also served as the Economy Division Gender Coordinator where she established a Division Gender team and produced several communications and knowledge tools to support capacity building on gender mainstreaming for Division colleagues.
Dina has been with UNEP for 10 years, having previously worked at the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity where she was part of the scientific and technical team focusing on the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety as well as other crosscutting issues such as synthetic biology and digital sequencing information.
Prior to working at the UN, Dina worked as a forensic wildlife ecologist and laboratory manager. She holds a degree in biochemistry from McGill University and a Master’s degree in forensic science from University of Strathclyde.
