Dr. Paul Mwambu serves as the Commissioner of Crop Inspection and Certification at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF) in Uganda. He acts as the focal point for Uganda within the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and holds the position of National Designated Authority on Agricultural Chemicals in the country. Prior to his current role, Dr. Mwambu served as the Project Coordinator for The Uganda Multisectoral Food Security and Nutrition Project (UMFSNP), a World Bank initiative, from 2015 to 2017.
With a wealth of experience, Dr. Mwambu previously held the position of Programme Manager for the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) Programme at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uganda from 2011 to 2015. He also contributed to conservation efforts as the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for the Mt. Elgon Conservation and Development Project, funded by IUCN (The World Conservation Union). Earlier in his career, Dr. Mwambu served as the District Production and Marketing Officer for Mbale District Local Government and chaired the Eastern Zonal Agricultural Research and Development (ZARD) Steering Committee.
Dr. Mwambu's academic background includes over 14 years of teaching and research experience at various institutions, including Uganda Christian University (UCU), Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), and The Uganda Management Institute (UMI). He holds a Master of Science degree from Makerere University, a Bachelor's Degree of Science (Honours) from Makerere University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Pesticide Risk Management from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, a Master of Public Administration and Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from UMI, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from Islamic University in Uganda, and a PhD in Public Administration and Management from the Uganda Management Institute (UMI).
