Dr. James Seong-Cheol Kang is Principal Transport Specialist of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and leads technical research and policy advisory work on transport. Previously, as Country Manager, he led green growth planning and implementation work in Mongolia and China. Prior to joining GGGI, he served as Director of the Center for Global Transport Research at the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI). At KOTI, he conducted projects in road transport, aviation, and logistics and led joint research programs with the World Bank, ASEAN, and the East-West Center. He also worked for a civil engineering consulting company where he developed software programs for highway alignment design and delay analysis in airport terminals. He is a seasoned transport and quantitative analysis professional with strong theoretical backgrounds in transport network analysis, optimization, and statistical analysis. He received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and an M.S. degree in Transportation, both from Seoul National University in Korea. He also obtained dual Master’s degrees in Transportation and Operations Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and earned his Ph.D. in Systems Engineering at Boston University.
