John Brittain is the Communications Coordinator for the GEF-funded Implementing Sustainable Low and Non-Chemical Development in Small Island Developing States Programme (ISLANDS). The programme is contributing to increased awareness and action on the polluting risks associated with numerous long-lasting chemical and other toxic waste products in island countries in the Caribbean and Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans.
John began his career as a radio journalist in Singapore and then joined UNDP in various communication roles in Asia, followed by 12 years as a Chief of Communication for UNICEF in Africa and Asia, and then seven years with IAEA in Vienna as the Communications Specialist for the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications. He joined the ISLANDS team in July 2022.
John holds a Masters in Poverty Reduction: Policy and Practice from SOAS in London where he specialized in Natural Resources Management, while his first degree was in Media Studies, majoring in radio journalism, from the University of Westminster in London.
