As World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Vice President for Sustainable Infrastructure and Public Sector Initiatives, Kate Newman specializes in policy development and large-scale conservation planning focused on nature-positive infrastructure in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
For over thirty years with WWF, Kate has helped WWF country teams and their partners in government and civil society build a more harmonious balance between conservation and economic development. She facilitates the application of conservation science in development planning, building capacity for strategic decision-making that enhances productive ecosystems while improving the well-being of local communities. She is currently working with teams in Mozambique, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bhutan, Nepal, and Colombia on forest and freshwater related green economy and infrastructure planning.
Before WWF, Kate supported civil society organizations in farm-to-market road, mini-hydropower, and rural clinic development with the US Agency for International Development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and received a BA in Anthropology from the University of Virginia and an MSc in Environmental Management from the University of London.
