Mike Young is Professor of Environmental and Water Policy at the University of Adelaide and held the Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser Chair in Australian Studies Harvard University during the 2013/14 Academic Year.
A member of several international water committees, Mike is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia and Distinguished Fellow of the Australian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society. Mike founded the University of Adelaide’s Environment Institute and specialises in the design of robust water entitlement and allocation regimes. He is widely recognised for his role in helping to catalyse transformational policy reforms.
Mike's experience includes the preparation of the water component of the UNEP report “Towards a green economy: Pathways to sustainable and poverty eradication;” co-editing the Earthscan book “Investing in Water for a Green Economy”; membership of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Water Security and the Global Water Partnership’s Technical Committee; and research. His knowledge of water access issues spans developing and developed countries.
