GGGI Vietnam - Green Growth Planning and Implementation

Recognizing that Vietnam's current economic model is unsustainable, the Government of Vietnam (GoV) adopted the “National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2011- 2020 with vision to 2050” (VGGS) as the centerpiece of efforts to stem environmental degradation, while still achieving relatively high economic growth. GGGI has been supporting the GoV develop VGGS strategies and plans for green growth, climate change response and sustainable development as part of the Green Growth Planning and Implementation project. In partnership with key Vietnamese ministries the project is:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of VGGS strategies and action plans
  • Conducting sectoral assessments for potential green growth initiatives
  • Developing customized investment guidelines for green growth in Vietnam that will provide a methodology for screening and prioritizing investment opportunities as well as mobilizing public and private finance
  • Supporting the development of green cities through activities aiming to mainstream green growth in government bodies responsible for urban planning

The overall objectives of this project are to support implementation of the VGGS through the development of action plans and green growth investment guidelines that will mobilize public financing and to develop a national green growth urban development strategy and identify possible intervention options to develop bankable projects.
