This report summarizes the third session in the GGKP National Implementation Plan (NIP) Action Plan webinar series, Activity Options for Action Plans for Brominated, Chlorinated and other New POPs, held on 22 January 2026.
The session focused on how NIP action plans can more effectively address newly listed persistent organic pollutants (POPs) amid a shifting global chemical landscape, characterized by the rapid increase of plastic additives such as brominated flame retardants, short- and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs/MCCPs).
From linking POPs management to global chemicals and waste management and circular economy frameworks to securing long-term financing with informal sector integration, the discussions provided actionable insights for building resilient, life-cycle-oriented action plans that align with global environmental goals.
As part of the GEF-funded and UNEP-led Global Development, Review and Update of NIPs under the Stockholm Convention on POPs project, the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is executing Component 4, focused on disseminating information, managing knowledge and coordinating with the Stockholm Convention Secretariat to provide accessible, integrated tools and resources for all Parties.
