This report summarizes the second session in the GGKP National Implementation Plan (NIP) webinar series, Activity Options for Action Plans on the Reduction of UPOPs and Management of PFASs, held on 20 January 2026.
The session highlighted the need to reduce unintentional POPs (UPOPs) using BAT/BEP, focusing on key sources such as poorly managed waste, open burning and industrial processes, alongside stronger regulations and improved, integrated inventories and PRTRs.
For PFAS, the webinar emphasized enhanced monitoring, better inventories of uses and waste streams, contaminated site management and life-cycle approaches to avoid regrettable substitution, aligned with broader pollution prevention frameworks.
The session forms part of the GEF-funded, UNEP-led project to update NIPs under the Stockholm Convention, with GGKP leading knowledge dissemination and coordination to support Parties with accessible tools and resources.
