This publication brings together seven papers prepared as “analytical notes” for the Donor Working Group on Environment. These notes synthesize the current status of Mozambique’s environmental policy as applied in various sectors, with regard to environmental legislation and policy, and assess the challenges ahead in order to contribute to the particular sectors phase with regard to environmental issues.
In 2005, Development Partners (DP) agreed to meet on a monthly basis to share information and participate in policy dialogues. This initiative led to the creation of the Donor Working Group on Environment as a platform for dialogue bringing together the Ministry for the Coordination of Environmental Action (MICOA) and other government institutions, together with development partners (DP), civil society, and the private sector.
The group has been instrumental in the integration of the environmental agenda into the current Action Plan for the Reduction of Absolute Poverty (PARPA-II). In March 2009, the Working Group on Environment agreed to commit to various experts the production of “analytical notes” giving a synthesizing of the current status of Mozambique’s environmental policy as applied in various sectors. The aim was to get an overview of the current status with regard to environmental legislation and policy and to assess the challenges ahead in order to contribute to the particular sector's phase with regard to environmental issues.
