To assist small island countries in selecting technology options for used oil management, Sustainable Waste Actions in the Pacific (SWAP) has conducted research on used oil recovery technologies that may be available and suitable for Pacific Islands.

Key options feasible to the Pacific context were identified and analysed for their primary technological, legal, economic and environmental considerations. Case studies showcasing some of these options have been presented to help understand the challenges and opportunities for used oil management in the Pacific region.

The resulting comparison of technology options forms a decision-making tool for Pacific islands to apply their respective economic, social, geographical, environmental and operational constraints to decide the most appropriate treatment option.
