On 30 January 2026 (16:00-17:30 CET), the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), as part of the GEF-funded and UNEP-led Global NIP Update Project (GEF ID 10785), will host a virtual webinar on Making Data Work: Applying GMP and POPs Inventories for Evidence-Based Policy in NIPs.

The webinar will explore how data from the Global Monitoring Plan (GMP) and national POPs inventories can be effectively handled, interpreted and leveraged to inform evidence-based policy design and enhance NIP development.

Focusing on the practical application of these data sets, the webinar will offer insights into past and ongoing GMP efforts and highlight opportunities for utilizing data to support sound environmental governance and effective POPs management.

The webinar will be conducted in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French, Russian and Spanish.

Objectives

  • Understand the role of GMP and POPs inventories in informing national policies under the Stockholm Convention.
  • Highlight ongoing efforts of the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention and the UNEP/GEF Global Chemicals Monitoring Program with an emphasis on integrating GMP data into national systems.
  • Discuss the role of qualified laboratories in POPs monitoring and their impact on data consistency for national and regional decision-making.
  • Build capacity for national stakeholders by providing practical insights into data collection and the application of GMP and POPs inventory data for NIP updates and policy-making.
