Ninth CEPR/EAERE Webinar on Climate Policy

Yes
Thursday, March 2, 2023 - 09:44
Ninth CEPR/EAERE Webinar on Climate Policy_Climate policy in times of war_Make the Green Deal strong again!

On 13 September 2022 (17:30-19:00 CET), the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) will host the webinar Climate Policy in times of war: Make the Green Deal strong again!

The targets of the European Green Deal require a substantial reduction of oil and gas imports even before 2030. However, institutions and policy instruments that would enable the EU to implement their targets are still weak. The planned ETS for road transport and buildings will be likely implemented with a price cap; so far, the EU has not been able to coordinate the purchases of member states in the international oil and gas market; the diversification of gas and oil imports remains a high priority.

The panel will discuss strategic options for the EU’s climate policy and energy security.

Climate Smart Agriculture and USAID's 2022-2030 Climate Strategy

Yes
Thursday, March 2, 2023 - 09:44
Climate Smart Agriculture and USAID's 2022-2030 Climate Strategy

On 28 July 2022 (09:00-10:30 EDT/15:00-16:30 CEST), Climatelinks is hosting Climate Smart Agriculture and USAID's 2022-2030 Climate Strategy, as part of the release of USAID's 2022-2030 Climate Strategy.

USAID aims to enable the improved climate resilience of 500 million people by 2030. With more than 193 million people already experiencing acute food insecurity, there is great urgency to help the broader community understand how Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) relates to and supports food security.

This webinar will consider ways in which approaches to food security can be "climate proofed" and can contribute to USAID’s new Climate Strategy, highlighting important co-benefits that can advance other parts of the Climate Strategy in order to build resilient, prosperous, and equitable world with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions while addressing growing food insecurity around the world. It will offer insights into topics that relate to food security, including:

  • Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) productivity
  • Innovative solutions USAID is using to reduce food loss and waste
  • Incorporating climate smart principles into humanitarian response
  • Gender-responsive approaches in CSA

Greening Aid for Trade: Future Priorities and Pathways for a Just Transition to Sustainable Trade

Yes
Thursday, March 2, 2023 - 09:44
Cover

On 28 July 2022 (17:30-19:00 CEST), the Forum on Trade, Environment and the SDGs (TESS), CUTS International Geneva, International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), and the Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the United Nations Office, among others, will host Greening Aid for Trade: Priorities and Pathways for a Just Transition to Sustainable Trade during the 2022 Aid for Trade Global Review in Geneva.

As governments and stakeholders work to promote the massive economic transformation that sustainability requires, trade and trade policy have a critical role to play. Amidst growing pressure for increased action by governments to respond to urgent global crises in biodiversity, climate and pollution, there are also calls to “green” the global economy and trade.

To support developing countries in a just transition to more sustainable trade, Aid for Trade has a key role to play in ensuring that trade serves all three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental.

The webinar will tackle these issues and more.

Carbon-free Electricity Procurement: Will Technology Help Make the Electricity Sector More Transparent and Accountable?

Yes
Thursday, March 2, 2023 - 09:44
IDB_Carbon-free elec procurement webinar

On 21 July 2022 (16:00 CET/10:00 GMT-5), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is hosting the webinar Carbon-free Electricity Procurement: Will Technology Help Make the Electricity Sector More Transparent and Accountable?

The energy sector is the largest contributor to global carbon emissions, so searching for ways to reduce this impact is very important. To do so, it is relevant to quantify the specific contribution of any initiative at the project, corporate or governmental level to the reduction of emissions. In the case of electricity generation, many different approaches to this have been used over the past years, but the emergence of new technologies has given rise to new methodologies for quantifying emissions reductions.

This webinar aims to give some clarity on recent developments in the field. It will also discuss the challenges of implementing these new methodologies at the institutional, regulatory and data availability levels.

How Communities and Cities Can Inventory GHG Emissions and Removals from Forests and Trees

Yes
Thursday, March 2, 2023 - 09:44
Cover
Virtual

On 28 July 2022 (15:00-16:30 CEST), the World Resources Institute (WRI), C40 Cities and ICLEI, will host a webinar presenting a new globally standardized, flexible methodology to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and carbon removals (sequestration) by forests and trees for cities and communities worldwide, building on the updated Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories (GPC).

Speakers will outline the methods covered in the new guidance: “Supplemental Guidance for Forests and Trees”, and showcase how cities and communities report their results and how to include them in their emissions reduction targets.

They will also discuss how communities have already inventoried GHG emissions and removals by forests and trees for more holistic climate action planning by outlining how some communities have already used these methods. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring diverse perspectives and experiences from cities that have user tested the guidance, city climate action planners, and institutional partners and a live audience Q&A session.
