On 19 November 2024 (14:00-16:00 CET), the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) will host the online training webinar "Strengthening the Collaboration with National Statistical Offices to Address Gaps in POPs Data and Related Information".

The event will explore UNEP’s guidance on enhancing POPs data management through the NSOs, addressing challenges such as scattered data and gaps in robust inventory creation. Key highlights include strategies for building comprehensive databases to support inventories across sectors like electronics, transport and construction, and guidance on using the UN Comtrade database to assess imported POPs and plastics. 

Objectives

  • Introduce participants to the “Guiding Methodology for Strengthening Collaboration with National Statistical Offices to Address Gaps in POPs Data and Related Information
  • Inform participants about the role of the National Statistical Office and related materials for capacity building under NIP development, review and update
  • Provide participants with an overview of data required for the electronic, transport, and construction sectors to develop POPs inventories and other selected chemicals of concern (CoC)
  • Inform participants about recommendations for improving the national data framework to support the development of POP inventories
  • Introduce participants to the approach of data generation on electronics from the UN Comtrade database and estimate the amount of plastics and POPs imported to a country from these data

  • Stockholm Convention Official Contact Points and National Focal Points particularly from project countries
  • National officials and experts involved in the process of reviewing and updating the NIPs
  • Members of the National Statistical Office and similar institutions
  • Practitioners working on POPs inventory and management
  • Members of NIP National Coordinating Mechanism/ Committees and Project Coordination Units/Thematic Task Groups
  • Representatives of Regional Centers and relevant stakeholders.
