Switzerland commits to support the development of the Hydropower Sustainability Standard and its deployment in priority countries of the Swiss development cooperation. The Hydropower Sustainability Standard certification system was launched in September 2021. The support focuses on capacity development to sustainably plan, implement and operate sustainable hydropower plants in four selected priority countries (Albania, Colombia, Indonesia, and Tajikistan) and on the co-financing of sustainability assessments in priority countries of the Swiss development cooperation. It also aims to develop opportunities for climate finance investment in hydropower projects. The commitment falls under focus areas 2, 3, 8. It is relevant to SDG 9. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

Georgia commits to implement staff training programmes on sustainable infrastructure. 500,000 school students will have opportunity to gain basic knowledge on important issues such as the Concept of Sustainable Development, Biodiversity Conservation, Water Conservation and Sustainable Management, Protecting the Air from Pollution, Climate Change and Natural Hazard Reduction, Land Management and Fight Against Desertification, Sustainable Agriculture, Food Safety and Quality. The commitment falls under focus area 9. It is relevant to SDGs 2, 4, 6, 7 and 12. The commitment is part of the Nicosia call 2022.

The center will be established as an information, education and capacity-building tool. It will cover seven main activity areas: Power sector transformation, sustainable urban development, green business development, transfer and adaptation of green technologies and best practices, development of green funding, development of renewable energy sources, and capacity-building for green growth.

Georgia commits to develop and implement the Education for Sustainable Development Georgian National Strategy and Action Plan for 2018-2022. Despite the achievements in the field of environmental education and education for sustainable development (ESD) in Georgia, further effort is needed to maximize the potential of this field in the country. The development and implementation of the National Strategy and Action Plan will ensure that ESD in Georgia provides all citizen with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary to live sustainably and foster environmentally responsible changes in society.

The commitment falls under focus area 9 of the Batumi Initiative to promote public participation, and education for sustainable development (ESD).

Implementing partners will include the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.

The commitment is relevant to SDG target 12.8.

Azerbaijan commits to strengthening the implementation and reporting of environmental dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals in the country.

The commitment will provide input for the implementation of the Environment for Europe (EfE) process in Azerbaijan and the implementation of national state programmes.

Implementing partners include relevant government institutions, academia, international organisations, and the private sector. 

This commitment falls under Batumi focus areas 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 .
