The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine commits to develop an eco-industrial parks model in accordance with the principles of the circular economy and resource-efficient production.
In Ukraine, at the local level, there are many unresolved problems of environmental pollution and ineffective use of natural resources and production capacity. Development of an eco-industrial parks (EIP) and transformation of the existing industrial parks (IPs) in accordance with the principles of the circular economy and resource-efficient production will be done via adaptation of the Ukrainian basis to the European model. This will help more effectively use potential of IPs under decentralized management and solve the problem of clean environment, creation of added value and new jobs in the region. The Roadmap should determine the areas of actions of the state and local authorities, as well as tools for motivating enterprises participating in IPs to work under industrial symbiosis conditions. It is necessary to develop approaches for the transformation of existing IPs into EIPs, and the creation of new EIPs in the regions, based on studying flows of input-output material resources circulating or could be circulating between enterprises, their optimisation and assessing the opportunities enterprises cooperation taking into account international experience.
The commitment falls under focus area 5 and 7 of the Batumi Initiative to develop clean physical capital for sustainable production patterns and to increase green and and decent jobs while developing the necessary human capital.
Implementing partners will include the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
The commitment is relevant to SDG 12.
