Green Growth as a Determinant of Green Official Development Assistance: Findings from the Republic of Korea

Despite the importance of a global transition to a green growth paradigm, many developing countries are unable to independently undergo a green structural transformation without the support of Green Official Development Assistance (G-ODA).

This paper addresses the lack of research on the descriptive drivers of G-ODA by elaborating on the relationship between the green growth levels of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Development Assistance Committee member countries and their G-ODA contributions.

The paper presents six findings:

  1. Green growth shares a positive relationship with the total value of G-ODA.
  2. Green growth possesses a positive relationship with the total value and percentage of multilateral G-ODA.
  3. Green growth boasts a positive relationship with the total value of significant G-ODA.
  4. There is insufficient data to claim that green growth influences the bilateral G-ODA contributions of donors.
  5. Green growth cannot be said to have a significant relationship with principal G-ODA.
  6. There is not enough evidence to claim that green growth significantly affects the objective-based commitments of G-ODA, including that of mitigation.
